I believe it is appropriate for me to welcome Mr Benjamin Atu (Media aide to Godwin Obaseki) to Edo state. I think I should let him know that Edo people have also resolved not to support or vote “strangers” as their governor after their experience in the hands of Governor Adams Oshiomhole. If Mr. Benjamin Atu was an ordinary resident of Edo State prior to the Governor anointing his boss, he wouldn’t have made the statement credited to him. He would have known that Gov Adams introduced hate campaigns to Edo politics. He would have known that Gov Adams has used his two uneventful tenures as Governor to cause disaffection and hatred between and within the peace loving and patient Edo people. He would have known that governor Adams demonized the elites, deceived the masses, lied to the teachers and brutalised the people he was elected to serve. I believe Mr. Atu must have heard the famous words and I quote “…if you are a widow, go and die…” . I am also sure Mr. Atu would have heard “…if they rig, kill them there…”. Mr Atu can’t claim ignorance of words like “locust years” just to mention a few.
Mr. Atu, you are advised to caution your governor and your party APC against hate campaigns. In PDP, we campaign with issues. We draw the attention of Edo people to the ills of your party and government. We let them know how the governor spends their money. We tell them that we won’t impose draconian taxes on them. We tell them that schools will be better equipped and that teachers and parents will get a better deal from a PDP state government. We tell them that our health and judicial institutions will be strengthened and that we will provide a safe and prosperous society where market women, traders and businesses will be allowed to thrive.
I challenge Mr Atu to quote a hate statement from the leadership of PDP. Edo PDP…listening to the cries of Edo People!
